What Is It?
The Mountain Moon Festival is a weekend full of music and dance. The music tends to be acoustic folk, fiddle, old-timey, Irish, etc. All instruments and all abilities are encouraged! The dances tend to be folk, contras and squares, tangos, swing, waltz, and more.
Community Tasks?
The Mountain Moon Festival is a community event. Nobody gets paid and everyone helps out. It takes about twenty major Coordinators to organize this festival. It takes 10-20 musicians, callers, and sound people to make the dances happen. Everyone else does a Community Task, such as helping cook or clean up.
Help us continue this great event by doing your part – plus some!
What to do first:
1. Check-In with the Registrar at 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.
2. Sign up for a Task on the Community Task chart. Please be on time for your task! We rely on you to make things work.
If you arrive before 5 p.m. do this first!
3. Grab a bunk in one of the cabins. All cabins are co-ed. (Unless there is a specific request, which you may make.) See the map for the location and quiet times for each cabin. Sleeping – Ear plugs and eye shades are good to have. You never know who will be next to you or when they will get to sleep or wake up. If you have a tent, you can pitch it above the Main Lodge or in the meadow below the Main Lodge.
4. Ogle at the workshop chart. Workshops happen all weekend!
5. Play music, dance, and hangout with your friends. Make new friends!
Main Events
Friday night - Contra Dance
Saturday afternoon - Special Event Dance(s)
Saturday night - Talent Show, Contra Dance
Sunday - Big Food Sale, Contra Dance
General Information
Meals - We try to serve meals on time but sometimes we are late due to the ovens or other unforeseen events. (It is not easy to plan a meal for 100 people!) After the meal, please bus your own plates near the kitchen. If you miss a meal or need a snack, please ask the Food Czar or someone in charge to help you find some snack food. Meals are carefully planned and we don’t want to come up short for the next one.
Water Issues - Please use the “flushies” near the lodge and cabins. The camp septic system is old and we don’t want to over tax it. There are showers in Arapaho, Columbine, Ponderosa and in the Main Lodge lowest level. Please use water sparingly.
Beverages - Coffee, tea, and cocoa are by the kitchen at all times. There is drinking water near the kitchen in the corner. Beer is on the front porch - please mark your cups and re-use them. Pop is on the front porch in the “Coffin” (large blue wooden box.)
Recycle - We will recycle glass, plastic and aluminum only if you put it in the collection area near the kitchen.
Smoking - NO SMOKING IN ANY BUILDING!!! General smoking area is on the *second floor - back porch* of the main lodge.
Wifi - There will be one computer with Guest access. We are coming together to enjoy the mountains and the community, not technology.
Clean up - Everyone pitches in for final cleanup. Please pack your gear on Sunday morning during our Camp Clean Up, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Ask anyone for help! If they cannot answer your question they should be able to direct you to someone who can.
Enjoy your weekend!!
